On June the 3rd 2022, 17 psychologists of the Dutch Caribbean Islands graduated as GGZ psychologists. This effort was made possible by Mental Health Caribbean (MHC) together with Rino Zuid. The psychologists now have a post master’s degree in psychology and may diagnose and treat a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses.

The GGZ degree allows the psychologists to work in many different organizations, such as nursing homes, revalidation centers, disabled care, forensic care and relationship therapy.

Psychologist from Saba, St. Eustasius, St. Maarten, Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire all took part and graduated from this intensive program. Many hurdles needed to be overcome to make this program possible for the Islands and still comply with the Dutch BIG registration norms.

Mental Health Foundation (MHF) was accredited as health care facility for the training of candidates for this this program, and its own psychologist Stephanie Haseth could participate; Zuleima Violinus Salomon was employed at MHF for one day a week to enable her the necessary practical training while working for the White Yellow Cross foundation.

It was an immense cooperation between all parties, understanding the different needs and possibilities during a two and a half year period, and regardless of the personal sacrifices and the unexpected COVID restrictions all parties managed to provide continuity and maintain the quality of the program.

The Mental Health Foundation St. Maarten would like to thank all involved parties for the immense efforts put into making this program a success.

MHF also congratulates its new graduates Stephanie and Zuleima and commends them for their efforts, they graduated with flying colors.
St. Maarten will benefit from their newly acquired qualities.
